A Distinguished Tenure at the Forefront of Albanian Security
Gledis Nano built one of the most consequential careers in Albanian law enforcement history — rising through the ranks from frontline investigator to the highest office in the Albanian State Police. As Director General, he commanded more than 12,000 officers nationwide, steering the institution through its most ambitious period of European integration and reform.
Before his appointment as Director General, he served as Director of Counter-Terrorism and Serious Crime, where he established Albania’s first dedicated Counter-Terrorism Directorate and forged intelligence-sharing partnerships with the FBI, EUROPOL, and INTERPOL. Under his direction, the unit dismantled three major transnational organized crime networks and co-authored the National Action Plan on Preventing Violent Extremism.
His earlier command of the Major Crimes Investigation Unit — responsible for homicide, financial crime, and high-profile corruption cases — established the rigorous investigative culture that would define his leadership style throughout his career.
